The Southern Poverty Law Center filed suit against the Imperial Klans of America (IKA) and four Klansmen, saying several members were on a recruiting mission for the group in July 2006 when they beat a teenage boy at a county fair in Kentucky. The lawsuit claims that as part of an official recruiting drive organized by the IKA leadership, members went to the Meade County Fairgrounds in Brandenburg, Ky., to hand out business cards and flyers advertising a "white-only" IKA function. Two of the Klansmen at the fair began harassing a 16-year-old boy of Panamanian descent, calling him a "spic," according to the lawsuit. The boy, who stood 5-foot-3 and weighed just 150 pounds, was beaten to the ground and kicked by the Klansmen, one of whom was 6-foot-5 and 300 pounds. The beating left the boy with two cracked ribs, a broken left forearm, multiple cuts and bruises, and jaw injuries requiring extensive dental repair.

A Midland man told police that his walking on the sidewalk in full Knights
of Ku Klux Klan regalia while toting a handgun had nothing to do with Barack
Obama winning the presidency.
Later, however, he admitted that Obama's victory was the catalyst for his
display.
Midland police questioned Randy G. Gray II, 30, who was walking on the
sidewalk along Eastman near North Saginaw Wednesday afternoon while waving an
American flag, but released him because he wasn't breaking any laws.
Gray was walking up and down the sidewalk in front of a vehicle dealership
while several motorists shouted obscenities at him and others shouted
''accolades,'' police said.
Randy Gray's name may _ring some bells_

Letter to the President Elect f the United States of America

Dear Mr. Obama,
As millions of people all over the world, I, a Mexican citizen, have been following the debates and yesterday I witnessed in amazement and satisfaction, your triumph over Senator McCain, in an unprecedented and historic moment in the history of that country.
The above, stated by numerous political experts, journalists, and people in general, is not so because you are the first Afro-American to be about opening the door of a path where you will either make history or just stay still, standing before that path without ever daring walking it because to do that, entails so many hindrances which are embodied in the huge corporations which manufacture those same weapons that are now, in this very moment, ending the lives of innocent children, men and women in Iraq, a country that George W. Bush, dubbed by millions around the world, as the worst terrorist world-wide, lying to his people, invaded not because that nation was harboring terrorists or building atomic weaponry but because the endless greed of oil and weaponry corporations.
By changing these criminal foreign policies, President Elect Barack Obama, you will indeed, write history with golden letters, modifying forever the perception that the United States successive administrations only care for power, control and exploitation of the resources and cheap labor of other underdeveloped countries.
And why are the challenges so incredibly hard and seemingly insurmountable you will face? I believe there are several which become harder by various reasons, among which the following are the most influential:

LOS ANGELES — The city's police officers are more likely to stop and search black and Hispanic residents than they are whites, even though whites are more often found carrying guns and contraband, according to a report released Monday by a civil liberties group.
"The results of this study raise grave concerns that African-Americans and Hispanics are over-stopped, over-frisked, over-searched, and over-arrested," wrote report author Ian Ayres, a Yale Law School economist and professor.
Ayres' report, published by the American Civil Liberties Union of Southern California, analyzed the Los Angeles Police Department's own numbers for pedestrian and motor vehicle stops in the year July 2003 to June 2004.
Even after researchers controlled for demographics and neighborhood crime rates, they found significantly higher stop rates for black and Latino residents. For every 10,000 residents, blacks were nearly three times more likely to be stopped than white and other "non-minority" residents, facing 3,400 more stops. Hispanics were stopped on 350 more occasions.
"These stark statistics ... give a numeric lens for the lived experience of 'driving while black' or 'driving while Hispanic,"' Ayres wrote.
Even though Ayres used the LAPD's own data, his findings were at odds with the department's analysis. The LAPD acknowledged racial disparities but, after controlling for a several variables, found "no consistent pattern of race effects."

Sheriff Joe Arpaio traded angry words and accusations with Mesa officials Thursday after 60 deputies and posse members armed with search warrants stormed City Hall and the public library in the middle of the night in a hunt for illegal workers.
"I believe the safety of our citizens was gravely compromised" when Maricopa County sheriff's deputies in "battle gear" swept into city buildings about 2 a.m. while cleaning crews were at work, Mesa Mayor Scott Smith told reporters. "I believe we had set the scene where bad things could have happened."
Arpaio defended his tactics, claiming the raid came only after a former city employee called the sheriff's illegal-immigration hotline to report that a cleaning company under contract with the city was hiring illegal immigrants.
Arpaio said the informant had tipped off a Mesa police lieutenant and said the lieutenant brushed off the request, saying it was a problem for the cleaning company.
But a city spokeswoman late Thursday said police Lt. Wade Pew and city staff met with the cleaning company, Management Cleaning Controls, on May 21 after he received the information.
A follow-up e-mail sent June 4 by facilities maintenance director Dennis Ray to cleaning company officials reiterated the city's concerns over "several security issues that have recently been brought to our attention," and included a section of the city's contract requiring that contractors ensure all workers are legal.
Despite its controversial image among many followers of the illegal immigration debate, the Minuteman Project isn't finding itself held at arm's length from congressional candidate Tom McClintock.
The Republican state senator spoke at a Minuteman rally last month where he both praised their work and joined their condemnation of San Francisco as a "sanctuary city" for illegal immigrants.
"A local government that actively works to undermine our nation's security and sovereignty has no claim to our nation's resources and support," McClintock (R-Thousand Oaks) said in the speech, given on the steps of the State Capitol on Sept. 2.
In the speech, McClintock also laid out an immigration policy for the United States that would include more stringent enforcement of current illegal immigration laws, completion of a border fence at the Mexican border and increased sanctions against employers who hire illegal immigrants.
The Minuteman Project, named after the "Minutemen" soldiers of Revolutionary War fame, is an activist group that operates in the southwestern U.S.
Describing itself as a Neighborhood Watch-like group for the border, Minutemen members often patrol in search of immigrants crossing from Mexico illegally, and will stop them and turn them over to U.S. Border Patrol agents.
Group members have said they want to call attention to problems associated with illegal immigration, though critics have said the group has an approach that borders on hate speech.
While both President Bush and former Mexico President Vicente Fox have criticized the group for taking a vigilante approach to border issues, politicians in both parties have supported the group, including Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger - and McClintock.
"But above all, I will never forget who this victory truly belongs to, it belongs to you." --Barack Obama, Chicago IL, Nov. 4, 2008
