National Lawyers Guild Statement on the Suspension of SF Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi and Ethics Commission Proceedings

As an organization of Bay Area attorneys, legal workers, law students, and community members, the National Lawyers Guild San Francisco Bay Area Chapter urges the City of San Francisco to stop using public resources to oust Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi from office. We are deeply concerned that his suspension without pay by Mayor Ed Lee is an affront to the democratic will of the people of San Francisco, and that the current efforts to remove him from office both lack sufficient due process protections and are politically motivated. We take the accusations of Eliana Lopez very seriously and believe domestic violence must be dealt with in a way that respects the survivors and reduces harm. However, the official reaction to the abuse Mirkarimi undoubtedly committed has been dominated by political grandstanding, not concern for domestic violence survivors. Notwithstanding this criticism, the Guild also calls on Sheriff Mirkarimi to take full responsibility for his behavior and, if he retains his office, to work with community based organizations on restorative approaches to domestic violence beyond the criminal justice model.

El Comité de Padres Unidos Calls on Public to Support Sheriff Mirkarimi and His Wife

Originally published on Mon Jul 16, 2012 at 06:55 PM PDT

This is the second stinging Press Release by the United Parents Committee. Their first on Mon. Jul. 02, 2012  which was also very critical on how an 'alleged' instance of domestic violence is being used in another instance of SF's Power Broker, former Mayor Willie Brown, unduly influencing the Democratic Party 'Conservative' forces allied with the Local GOP Leaders, to consolidate political power by placing 'yes' officials, such as what Mayor Ed Lee is and what the overwhelmingly elected Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi, will never be.

The reason why those of us who know, respect and support the Padres Unidos organization and the work it does, are not taken aback on their position in the case of Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi and should think of it as incongruent and possibly also contradictory to their pro-victims of domestic violence advocacy, is because we also know that their primary concern and focus is to assist the victim. By 'assist', it is meant to mean that they do preach and practice respect for the victims' basic civil rights as a person, namely, self-determination, to name the one in top of the list.

Resolution in Support of Justice for Eliana Lopez, Ross Mirkarimi, and Theo Mirkarimi by the Harvey Milk Cub

Originally published on Thu Jul 19, 2012 at 12:00 PM PDT

On July 17, 2012, the Harvey Milk LGBT Dem Club, passed a resolution in support of the Mirkarimi family which I share with you below. I'm including comments I made last night after the hearing in an event created to support them, it is named "Yo le creo a Eliana - I believe Eliana"

Finally, Eliana is having her opportunity of telling her side of the story, this is something that San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee, the Distric Attorney George Gascon, the City Attorney Dennis Herrera, didn't want to let it come out, they were terrified that their whole filthy, dirty, corrupt political lynching of an duly elected official be exposed to the general public. Well, it is out now and more people are seeing what we have seen from the beginning, what Ms. Linnetta Peralta Haynes referred as sounding 'fishy' and that the "United Parents Committee" Calls "A political lynching"
